So far in the span of a mere two days I have broke two of my goals.
Friday I swore off Facebook for at least two weeks. I've already had to peeks. To be fair, the first time was at 3:30 am Saturday morning, so that doesn't really count right? I had a nightmare that involved zombies AND dinosaurs. Yeah. It was a megamare. I simply wanted to confirm that no zombie/dinosaur apocalypse had occurred. After that I couldn't even get back to sleep. I just laid in bed (well got up for a light snack) until around 8:30 and then got ready because my dad would be arriving to spend the weekend for Father's Day. The second time was while in the movie theater. But, both times were very brief and didn't involve any mindless lingering which is the main thing I wish to avoid. The second goal I slightly failed with is writing every day. However, it was only yesterday I did not write and that was because my dad was in town.
It was a fun visit. Yesterday we went and had sushi before seeing Super 8 which was AWESOME. As soon as I saw the trailer I was intrigued, and since Lost was the only thing that was ever disappointing from JJ Abrams, I figured there was a high chance I would be happy. Super 8 is a movie like I haven't seen in years. And by years I mean the sort of films I watched as a kid. Although it was set in 1979, that wasn't what gave it a "classic" feel. It was something else. It was one of those films you can enjoy just as much as a kid as you can as an adult. It was exciting, scary, funny, mysterious, and touching all at once. AND it had kids as the main characters, which didn't make it a kid fun but made you remember what it was like to be a kid at that age and it was especially dear to me because it involved kids making a movie. All I can say is if you liked movies like The Goonies, E.T., Stand By Me, The Sandlot, with a touch of scary, you will like this. It was fun and had a happy ending that left me feeling fulfilled in a genuine way, not a superficial one due to whoring out SFX. Maybe I'm overselling it and/or not explaining it accurately, but it was fun and made me jump a few times which is hard to do! Also, I wasn't able to guess the ending...and my dad wasn't able to either which is RARE.
After that we finished up the evening watching two MSTK:3000 films as a horror film I personally worked on.
All in all it was a good weekend, except for the sad news that E Street's Clarence Clemons passed away. That was one sad bit of news I heard waking up today. I was lucky enough to see him towering above me up-close and personal 3 years ago when I got to see Bruce.
