Someday, I'd really REALLY like to work on a Rob Zombie movie. Hell, it would be even better if he directed one of my scripts. I am a horror movie connoisseur and over the many years (I'm talking I started when I was 2-thanks mom and dad) I've pieced together what I enjoy and what I dislike about horror movies.
I'm not a big fan off the regular run of the mill ghost movies or slasher films. They are for the most part predictable, and only have one shtick going for them. What I want is
a. Surrealism, with a touch of Reality to warn you this COULD happen. Something so bizzare and nightmarish you know it couldn't really be happening, but deep down you think it could and possibly has. You want that feeling of in between when you are trying to wake up from that really horrid nightmare but can't really shake it off.
b. Disturbing images. I want to feel uneasy. I didn't rent/watch this to feel warm in side. I want to see if I can shock my system.
c. Frightening moments that make me jump. The slashers rely on this and only this and after the first time it becomes predictable.
d. Imagination is worse then anything that can be shown on the screen. Somethings need to be left up to your worse nightmares without depriving you like how I felt about the shark in Jaws. That was too scarce.
e. Happily never after. I don't want everyone to be all happy at the end because it feels like the director took the easy way out. I want to end it going, "WTF?"
For the most part, Rob Zombie has captured this for me. There are plenty of other horror films I enjoy that take many of these aspects into consideration, but they usually fail to use all of the ingredients in my awesome horror film recipe.
