The Epic Post...Not Really

It's been a slow start, but I think the film I am working on is finally going to start production every single weekend until completion. As of now, I've only been to set for two days of filming which started back mid May.

For those of you who don't know (like I have readers), I'm working on a sci-fi horror movie which films only on the weekends because sadly, Seattle does not have a real good film community that can actually support someone. Yes, some people have made it, but it's rare and it's more for those who really love film, regardless if they see a profit from it. I'm still holding onto that high hope I can work on a movie with some awesome actors that I've enjoyed going on adventures with via the theaters and my TV. Cheesy I know, but hey, it WOULD be kickass.

Last Friday I went with a friend and his friend's to the Crypticon Horror convention at the Seattle center. There was the usual vendors set up, which made me wish I had more money because there were some sweet DVDs I would have picked up to keep on hand for some rainy day horrorfests. Anyways, they also had some people walking around that have worked in some of the horror films I loved and some I never heard of. I recognized that inbred looking guy from the original The Hills Have Eyes and what I thought had been a really creepy makeup job was really that guys face...yikes.

The most interesting portion of the night was listening to two interviews from two different directors. One was Don Coscarelli which was awesome because he's worked with the one and only Bruce Campbell on Bubba Ho-tep. The other director was Lloyd Kaufman, probably the most interesting even though I had strangely never heard of him until that night. Although some of his films are probably not of the greatest quality, he has worked some damn amazing people in his career and it was very inspiring to hear him talk about the indepentent community, the politics of the industry, as well as how each of us could revolutionize movies. If you take a look at his IMDB profile you can definitely get an idea that this guy has a lot going on. I am going to have to try to watch some of his Troma films, though I know I probably won't like a lot of them. Regardless, that man is VERY interesting to listen to and funny as hell.

Anyways, I made it to happy hour with Jinger in Bellevue and we had amazing $2.95 burger WITH fries at McCormick and Schmicks as well as some cheap-ass yet wonderfully delightful chicken wings and artichoke dip. YUMMY!

Even though I got home late (ok not late, but late for a weekday) I rent straight to my inbox to discover two DVDs from Netflix. HEROES!!!! Ok, I know they finished up season 3 this spring but I had been meaning to watch it since the beginning and never got around to it. Anyways, I watched parts of it back in April or May or something with my mom was over and saw the season finale (thanks, now I know Nathan dies!) and decided to add it to my queue. Last week I decided to upgrade my plan to 2 unlimitted DVDs per month as I was instantly hooked on the show (I know, big suprise there). Hopefully soon I can finish up season one, move on to season 2 which looks like a short one, and finish up with season 3 on Hulu (Ok I've cheated. While waiting for my next DVDs I watched some of the episodes from season 3...poor Ando :( )

Anyways, my fav characters are definitely Hiro and Ando (despite the whole Hiro stabbing Ando part). I am always drawn to the heroic yet often comic relief of a show. When the plots get dark, I need the nerdy heroes to make me laugh and still know they can kick butt!

Peter-I still don't know what to think of him. What I've seen it parts of season 3 he is useful but can be a total douche. Part of me think's his character is sympathetic, other times I find him obnoxious, especially when he gets the "angry face" and starts talking out of the side of his mouth like Holly Hunter (I hate that bitch, seriously).

Nathan-Now that I know he dies I don't know what to think. He seems like an asshole. Ya, he has his moments, but he just seems self serving and he's married to Miss No-Neck (real life).

Claire-Usually I find that female characters in shows can be super stupid and annoying as hell-especially when they are teenagers. I have to say I am actually very pleased with this character and really feel for her (despite knowing the fact she can't die). She seems pretty badass despite her adoptive father who really creeps me out. I think he probably does think he is doing good and means well, but he seriously reminds me of someone who would show up on To Catch A Predator wanting to do some freaky shit with ropes, peanut butter, and the family dog.

Isaac-Obviously, he serves a small purpose by painting the future, but other than that he's basically the Garfunkel of the show. He adds just a little, but the others would be just fine without him. Snooze!

Sylar-Ok I admit it. Quinto was probably the main reason I pushed up Heroes on the queue list (Thank you Star Trek) but his character is interesting. I see from the beginning as well into the 3rd season you can kinda sympathize with him since he was the nerdy guy wanting to be important but yet has those evil urges (Spike?). His ambiguity is interesting, not knowing if he’s going to end up bad or good (speaking of ambiguity, I am left wondering does this guy like dudes?).

The Haitian-I like the character-he’s the cool quiet type that is a total badass yet you can tell he probably cries during romantic films. I laugh every time someone automatically knows he’s Haitian. Seriously, do you really think someone would just assume that? Doubtful.

Parkman-I like him too. He’s the most “everyday” guy (and by everyday I mean chubby, dorky, nothing cool about him though he does seem sweet) that I want to cheer for and feel bad when he embarrasses himself.

Mohinder-He’s definitely the cheerleader of the show (I know, not the CLAIRE type). He seems enthusiastic without being obnoxious and he’s nice to look at. I know his character goes all mad The Fly later on, but for now I enjoy watching him try to find all the special people.

So, I know there’s more, like Niki, but whatever. I’ve written enough on this pointless post. I just wanted to fill up some space in the new diggs.

  1. Um yeah, I'm almost ALMOST tempted to watch Heroes, too, just to see Spock.

  3. I don't know - maybe I'm in love with the Spock in him and not the Sylar?
